History of Triasx

Our heritage dates back to July 1995 when Michael Symes and Gregory Delforce established Filtronic Comtek Australia as a wholly owned subsidiary of the UK publicly listed company, Filtronic Plc.  From 2 people at that time, the company grew strongly and profitably through to its peak in 2002/2003 when it was supplying critical RF technology to many international OEMs (vendors) and operators (carriers). 

These were busy years.  The Australian group was designing and manufacturing critical RF components for OEMs in Japan, China, Europe, Canada and the USA.  We placed the first Filtronic employee in China, then operating as a Representative Office in Shanghai and also established a subsidiary company in Japan.

With a truly global customer base, greater than 80% of our product value was exported and the company received numerous Australian technology and export awards.

During the period 2002 to 2005, Greg was seconded to Filtronic Comtek UK in the role of Engineering Director and Michael Symes was seconded to Filtronic’s facility in Suzhou (China) as General Manager.  

In 2005 negotiations commenced for a Management Buy Out of Filtronic’s Australian based telecommunications subsidiary and in August that year, Michael and Greg acquired the assets, goodwill and on-going contracts of that business.  Many of the Filtronic staff moved across to the new company and a seamless transfer of the business was achieved. 

The years from the buyout in August 2005 to 2008 saw the successful launch of many new products including the worlds first portable passive intermodulation test instrument and a range of U900 same band combiners.  More than five patent applications were lodged and the customer base spread to include some of the worlds largest mobile operators in North America and Western Europe.  This growth was supported by additional premises in Brisbane Australia and also the establishment in 2008 of a Wholly Foreign Owned Enterprise in Suzhou, China. 

In July 2008 Triasx was wholly acquired by Smiths Group, a UK headquartered multi-national company and the company continues to operate in the Smiths Interconnect Division.  The original business founders and a great majority of staff have continued with Triasx from the early Filtronic era into the current period.
